"Fizz, Boom, Read" Comes to FPG

Ms Krystal from the Chapel Hill Public Library came to invite students to participate in the "Fizz, Boom, Read" Summer Reading Program. Students can win prizes for reading and attend special programs all summer long!

Wax Museum

As part of the 3rd grade curriculum, students studied about a prominent person in history.  The students  dressed up like that person and then, acting as the famous person, would tell people about themselves (en Español and/or English).

Día del niño/Day of the Child

FPG Kindergarten- 4th grade dance

Stduents exceeded the readathon goal for minutes read (they read 560,000 minutes!).  As a reward they had a dance in the courtyard last Friday afternoon.

Readathon Award Assembly

Congrats to students classes won awards for reading the most minutes during the Read-a-thon.  The school collectively read 560,000 minutes and raised over $4000! many Thanks to the readathon chair Jennifer Ferris.

¡Batalla de los Libros/ Battle of the Books!

Congratulations to our 4th & 5th students who participated in FPG Bilingüe's first Batalla de los Libros!  To compete in the Batalla de los Libros, students had to read 14 books, create blogs, posters or questions in Spanish about the books, and finally answer questions in a timed competition. A team of eight representatives, chosen based on who scored the highest, will compete against a team of students from Carrboro Elementary via Skype.

Author comes to FPG

First and second grade students enjoyed a visit from local author and educator Angie Marino who visited the FPG library to read her book "Lemurs."  The book is illustrated by students who take art from Kim Greene (who teaches the Brighthorse Art after school).

Financial Education

As part of the curriculum on financial education, Mr. Poindexter took 2nd graders to a local bank.  The bank discussed the importance of saving for your future and using credit responsibly.
